    INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE, SUMMIT. AND SYMPOSIUM


    IEARN CONFERENCE AND YOUTH SUMMIT I N EGYPT, 2007

    Teachers and students around the world took part

    in IEARN Conference and Youth Summit  in Egypt

    On July 2007, one teacher (Wiwi Rosaraia), together with two students of SMA 1 Padang, Prama Yudha and Alia Nessa,  attended IEARN Conference in Egypt. IEARN is a non-profit global network that enables young people to use the Internet and other new technologies to engage in collaborative educational projects that both enhance learning and make a difference in the world, In addition, a teacher and two students also became the presenters  at that conference and youth summit.

    It was an exciting time for US due to the benefits we got from that event. We could meet many people around the world and visited several historical places such as Pompey Pillar in Alexandria, Pyramid and Mummy Museum in Cairo.

                   Youth Summit for Environment in Kobe, Japan 2008









    SMA 1 Padang,  Indonesia , Wiwi Rosaria as a teacher, and two students Ando Amadino and Lousiana Dwinta Utami participated in the Youth Summit for Environment in Kobe Japan, which was successfully organized by Japan education and resource Network,  from May21st to May 24th, 2008. This event attempted to get together to talk about the environmental issues in several  countries, shared the feeling of oneness , the thought that the earth we live on should be protected with combined efforts despite the differences in each other’s environment, culture and sense of values. In addition, this summit tried to foster a better understanding of children the environmental problems and raise positive posture for the solution of environmental problems and send the messages to the minister. So, about 115 students from 21 nations, guided by the teachers, parents, organizer, and volunteers, gathered in Kobe to discuss environmental  issues including global warming at Kobe Art Center. The students presented message to the environment ministers for protecting the earth from any destruction and  tackling climate change on behalf of youth around the world


    MONDIALOGO SCHOOL CONTEST SYMPOSIUM

    BEIJING CHINA , 25 TO  29 SEPTEMBER 2008


    SMA 1 Padang participated in  Mondialogo School Contest  Symposium, held on  25 September to 28 September 2008 in Beijing  China , initiated by UNESCO and Daimleratt. This contest was attended by a student (M. Iman Usman), who acted as the project leader  and a supervising teacher (Wiwi Rosaria) .

    Mondialogo School Contest  Symposium was held on  25 September to 28 September 2008 in Beijing  China , initiated by UNESCO and Daimler. Two representatives from each of the 25 finalist partner teams which came from 50 schools met in Beijing, China, at the Mondialogo School Contest Symposium – the closing highlight of the Mondialogo School Contest 2007/2008.. The objective of this School Contest is to bridge the dialogue between school students from different cultural backgrounds and continents, who work together by conducting collaborative projects to  develop understanding, solidarity, tolerance and respect for people with different cultures, religions, languages and origins.

    This school contest was  attended by  the students and the  teachers from 50 schools or 25 partnered  teams from 36 countries around the world, and supported by the students of  Experimental High School. They   met here to discuss the significance of cultural exchange and the students presented their collaborative projects in front of their exhibition  to the jury of the  contest. This Mondialogo Symposium,  hosted by the National Commission of the People Republic of China and the Experimental High School Attached to Normal University of Beijing. The participants stayed at Jade Garden Hotel Beijing, located in the city center of Beijing.

    In addition, this Mondioalogo Symposium inaugurated three prizes to the  winners at the  Award and Intercultural  Evening at the Dong Yuan Theatre Beijing  on Sept 28, 2008,  after the 25 partnered teams were evaluated by the jury through their project reports, exhibitions, and presentations . The  partnered team from the Lebanon and Serbia reached the first prize with their collaborative project regarding inclusive education. This partnered team worked on a joint concept for a playground specifically adapted for disabled children. This playground becomes a safe place to play and learn about each others culture for disable children. This first prize was awarded with 1,500 Euro for each team. The second prize went  to the partnered team from  Indonesia (British International School Jakarta) and Ukraine (Gymnasium No. 2 Khmelyntskyi) with the project about the concept of a mobile bike library, the self-written and illustrated story books, intended to promote reading for pleasure. The partnered team of Germany - Mexico and Syrian Arab Republic - United States of America got the third positions. The Syrian-American team conducted a project which asked refugee children to paint their memories and hopes and created a book. The students from Germany and Mexico attempted to put pin boards in their schools to collect questions and answers regarding immigration. . Both partner teams received 500 Euro each for their efforts.

     The special recognition for "sustainability" went to  team Russia – Turkey which  conducted a research on the effects of global warming on agriculture and water supply in both countries and they produced practical information material regarding environmental protection and the stainable use of resources. The Special Recognition for "cultural diversity”  obtained by the partnered team Benin - United States of America because they created a joint quilt tapestry made of pieces of fabric from both countries reflecting the cultural variety.


    Actually, the 3rd Mondialogo School Contest followed by more than 36,000 school students from 140 countries participated in the 2007–2008 edition of the Contest, In total, 2,740 bi-national teams worked together on collaborative projects, like photo essays, collages, music and theatre plays, sculptures and internet pages, but only  the finalists from 25 partnered teams consisting of  50 schools were invited due to the outstanding of their collaborative projects.

    GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP SUMMIT, GREEN SCHOOL BALI 2008

    Wonderful people were gathering at   the Green  School, Bali    on Nov 2008


    Global Citizen Summit was held in Bali from 14 to 16 November 2008,  attended by around 60 participants from many countries around the globe. This summit took place at  a Green School Bali,  a beautiful eight-hectare environmentally sustainable campus,  built entirely of low-impact and environmentally conscious materials such as bamboo, alang-alang grass, and traditional Balinese mud walls. The aim of this summit is to engage Global Citizens like educators or teachers    in creating  a sustainable and more peaceful world by conducting  collaborative hands-on, teacher-centered workshops,  including  resources, strategies, and activities to link sustainability and global issues to a school’s existing curricula: relating learning to the realities of the outside world. This workshop involved  representatives from the IBO Community Theme Project, UNESCO’s Education for Sustainable Development Program and United World College Global Concerns Department.    One of the teachers from SMA 1 Padang, Wiwi Rosaria (ASPNet member  from Indonesia) also took part and became one of the presenters of this summit.

    MINANGTEAM2009

    SMA 1 PADANG  RECEIVES PLATINUM AWARD

    in the  Doors to Diplomacy   2009


    SMA 1 Padang receives the 2009 Doors to Diplomacy Award, and got platinum from the program, sponsored by U.S State Department and Global SChoolnet Foundation. The team  consists of four students ; Hany Ayuning Putri, Fildzah Amalya, Imre Nagi, Harris Putra Reza, and coach Wiwi Rosaria, have successfully reached platinum award after competing   203 projects -- representing 34 countries.  This award recognize the web projects that best teach young people about the importance of international affairs and diplomacy.

    In this program, the team from SMA 1 Padang choose the topic  Preserving Arts and Culture of Minangkabau as their project.  This project  promotes diverse arts and cultures from West Sumatra, Indonesia. In this project, students  conducted research related with arts and culture existed in  Minangkabau, West Sumatra Indonesia , and activities in promoting arts and culture of Minangkabau.  the team  created  website and published their works through cyber world in order to the people around the world can recognize the arts and culture of Minangkabau by showing photos and videos, and several essential information related with Arts and Culture of Minangkabau, West Sumatra-Indonesia. Through these activities, the students improve their appreciation toward the importance of preserving arts and culture existed in their own community or country. This project apparently improve the awareness of young people to be more concern about arts and culture of their country,  and teach them to be a global citizen  who need to build  diplomacy with the other nations since we are living in global village in which fraternity should  be improved so that we can live in peace and harmony.

      So, On JAnuary 28, the students of grade X.5, 6, and 7, held an exhibition of the students project in the classroom. This projects aimed to enhance and promote the benefits of several things found in our daily life such as coconut, water,shell, and so forth
